Vicky drained her wineglass and shook her head at the attentive waiter before he could refill it. She’d had more than enough wine. On the other hand, it was helping her get through an evening with Jeremy.

She had wanted to get to know him better. Well, she’d certainly done that. After a few hours in his company, she’d discovered quite a few things about him. He had a good background. He had a respectable career. He had outstandingly clean hands. And he would be a good remedy for insomnia.

Vicky seldom suffered from insomnia.

Naturally Father and I were delighted, Jeremy intoned, his expression showing nothing close to delight. So were the shareholders. I don’t think there’s any doubt about who will be taking over the company after Father retires.

Oh? Vicky tried to summon up an interest in Jeremy’s life. And when will that be?

Great. If she married him, she’d have ten years of listening to him trying to make a big impression on Daddy and the stockholders so he could take over the business. Vicky closed her eyes.
