Derek startled awake to the sound of the front door slamming shut. Pushing himself up, Derek struggled to make sense of the noise. Glancing over to the other side of the bed, he saw the sheets were empty. No sign of Landon.
Did he leave?
Derek relaxed as he heard soft footsteps move through the living room, approaching his bedroom. The door to the bedroom crept open, revealing Landon and two white paper coffee cups balanced in one hand.
Seeing Landon triggered replays of last night, resulting in a rather uncomfortable problem.
The two of them had been insatiable. After their first round, Derek had pulled Landon into the shower. Landon had taken the opportunity to prove how skilled his tongue really was. Then they had tumbled back into bed for rounds two and three. Derek had cleaned the both of them up before pulling Landon in his arms and falling asleep.
Looking back, it had been the sight of Landon in a tuxedo that had been his undoing. All he had wanted to do was lock Landon away in his office and have his wicked way with him. In the end, it had been all he could do to concentrate enough to give the audience a halfway decent performance. Even then, he wasn’t sure he accomplished that.
Hooking up at the party last night had been a huge risk, one that he wasn’t completely sure they had gotten away with. If Derek had one brain cell left, he would end this now. Last night should have been enough to satisfy both of their needs. But even now, he ached to pull Landon back into the bed and have him again and again.
“Oh! You’re up,” Landon said with a bright smile. He left the bedroom door open and sat down on the bed, extending one of the cups to Derek. Derek took it, answering Landon’s infectious smile.
“Hope you don’t mind, but since Grinder’s is so close, I decided to just go and make us a couple drinks.” Landon took a sip of his cup.
“Somebody could have seen you,” Derek said, taking a sip of his own cup. Until then, he hadn’t realized how much he had missed Landon’s coffee.
Landon shook his head. “Nah, it’s mostly college kids in this neighborhood. Most of them are still sleeping. It’s not even eight o’clock yet.”
Derek pressed his lips together. He knew it was irrational to expect Landon to sneak in and out of his house all the time. Besides, none of his neighbors knew who he was. He never talked to them, usually kept to himself.
“Um,” Landon began, twirling the protective sleeve around his cup. “Royce is on his way to pick me up. I have a shift at the coffee shop this afternoon and need to get home and get ready. Plus, homework.”
Derek nodded. It was for the best. He should feel relieved that Landon was leaving. It would give him some time to think.
Shouldn’t he?
“Derek?” Landon said. Derek blinked at him. “You okay?”
Derek nodded, lifting the coffee cup.
