Chapter 14

I parked my Jeep on the curb of Death Row Drive. I didn’t think I’d be back in Tombstone this soon, but here I was. All because of this Eli, a member of The Forsaken.

And I didn’t have to look hard for his address. All I had to do was ask my aunt.

“Eli Souza,” she’d said last night after I’d gotten back from Annette’s. “That dirty, stinky excuse of a man. And the ugliest toes you’ve ever seen.”

Dash spat out his coffee. “Sorry.” He wiped his mouth.

I laughed, happy to see Dash so relaxed with my aunt. “Tell me more about these toes. I mean… how would you know what his toes looked like unless…”

My aunt waved a dismissive hand at me. “I never had sex with that snake, if that’s what you’re insinuating. Though, he did try to get into my pants more than once.”

“More than once?” This was a strange conversation, and I’d started it.

My aunt gave me her bulldog stare. “Don’t you start with me, young lady. Why do you want to know about him?”

“Well, Blake seems to think he’s one of The Forsaken.”

“Does he now?” My aunt pursed her lips, her brows lowering as she tossed that new information around inside her head. “That wouldn’t surprise me. He was always practicing illegal spells and somehow never saw the inside of a prison. I’d always wondered why that was.”

That was interesting. “You think he has friends in higher power?”

“Higher power,” agreed my aunt. “Like The Forsaken.”

As soon as I got out of my Jeep, I had my guard up. The last thing I wanted was to see that nasty fae and his crew again. I checked my pockets and was rewarded with the thud of my metal lighter. My little buddy. I made sure to refill it before leaving my aunt’s house.

A few paranormals across the street from me looked my way, and I did my best not to make eye contact.

I had the feeling that Blake would show up, seeing as he was so commanding last night, but I didn’t see his SUV anywhere. Good. I didn’t feel like dealing with him right now. I was busy. He and his ego needed to take a number.

My phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out. “Speak of the devil.”

It was a text from Blake.

Blake: We found a body at an old abandoned mill at the edge of town. His name is Samuel Caddel. He was killed the same way as Tim.

Shit. This was the Samuel Cristina had told me about.

I scrolled through the gruesome pictures. Judging by the level of decomposition on the body, Samuel had been killed days before Tim. Was he the first sacrifice? Were there more? I didn’t know. But Blake was right. The body had been carved with the same symbols I’d seen on Tim’s body. I could clearly read the same Latin letters—ANIMAE. SOUL.

Damnit. Another dead kid. If my aunt was right and these Forsaken were responsible, I needed to stop them.
