“I’m not sure what to make of it,” Sally said to her attractive best friend, Lana Loom.

“What do you think is the problem?” Lana asked in turn, a puzzled look on her face.

“Well, I don’t know if it’s anything to worry about… I mean she’s just nineteen years old,” the concerned mother, Sally, shook her head doubtfully.

“You can tell me,” Lana smiled, rubbing her best friend’s shoulder with an encouraging hand.

“Well, she’s just not shown any interest in boys yet. Do you know what I mean?” The distraught Sally cast a pleading look toward Lana. “She just does girly kinds of things still. She’s never been on a date that I know of, never gone to a dance with a boy, never had a date to the prom! It’s almost as if she’s still just a young girl, you know, before they start thinking about boys.”

“Oh…” Lana smiled reassuringly. “That’s not such a big deal, is it? She’s still young and has lots of time to develop those little romances.”

“I know…” Sally whispered. “It’s just… it’s just…”

“What, you’d rather she just jump right in, Sally!” said Lana – a middle aged woman who was still packing a youthful dose of sex appeal in every curve of her sculpted body.

“No, of course not Lana! It’s just that some times I wonder, you know…”

Another pleading expression gripped her face.

“Oh…” Lana nodded. “You think she might, uh, fancy the finer gender?”

“No, I’m not saying that!” Sally shot back. “I’m just… Oh, I don’t know what I’m saying! I just worry about her, that’s all. I’m her mother. That’s my right, isn’t it?”

“She should be so lucky!” Lana gushed. “Your little Sarah will be just fine, I’m sure. Some times it just takes a girl a little while longer to find themselves. You know how that can be.”

“I suppose…” And here Sally brought a finger to her mouth in thought. “Still, maybe you could talk to her Lana? I mean you’ve always been close to her.”

“Me?” Lana reeled her head back with shock.

“Yeah, you’ve been on camping trips with her and family events. She thinks of you like a cool older sister. I’m just her crazy old mother! And it would be way too awkward if I tried to say anything like that to her… We haven’t even had the talk… ever!”

Lana laughed aloud, patting her best friend on the shoulder.

“Okay, Sally, okay! Well let’s not make a big deal out of it yet. I’ll ask her to come over on the weekend for a girl’s night and I’ll see if I can bring it up during the conversations. But I don’t make any promises!”

“No, of course not!” Sally beamed, rushing over to hug her friend.
