Lucy was still coming down to earth when Drog’s wrist communicator beeped at him.

“Shit.” His dick was still inside her, and he pulled out with a liquid slurping noise. “Drog here, go ahead.” He ran a hand through his hair after he moved to the side of the bunk.

“Captain, we need you in sector 25.”

“I’m off-duty. What’s going on?”

“We found one of your men, sir. Dead.”

Lucy jumped up as she heard the news. Dead? They’d need her there too. She got up and ran to the cleaning unit even as Drog was pulling on his suit. Ten seconds in the unit and the evidence of their interlude was washed away. Lucy wished there was a cleaning unit for her brain too.

“I’ll notify the Chief Medical Officer and be there in five. Drog out.”

The face he turned to her was nothing like her charming dinner companion or that of a considerate lover. This was an Imperial Officer, and he wasn’t happy. “Do you need to get anything?”

“I’ll need to stop by the infirmary on the way to get my medical kit.”

“Then let’s get moving.”

Lucy hustled out the door and through the corridors to the infirmary. The look on Drog’s face didn’t bode well for whoever caused his soldier’s demise. He followed her into the supply room where she pressed her thumb against the scanner and typed in her ID number automatically. Reaching in to grab her kit, she absently checked the log. The only things taken out were some four by fours and some antiseptic. Must have been a slow night.

“All set?” Drog was tapping his foot impatiently.

“Yes, just checking the logs.”

“Everything where it’s supposed to be?”

“Yup, nothing unusual.”

“Good, then let’s go.”

Drog led the way down to sector 25. The thunderclouds of anger on his face cautioning those in his path to get out of the way or get run over. It was all Lucy could do to keep up with his ground-eating strides.

Her thoughts tumbled over themselves in her mind. Had she really just had sex with this man? Shared her body with someone she’d sworn to avoid? Everything happened so fast, one minute she was engaging in verbal foreplay with him, the next she was having the best sex of her life, and now they were rushing down the hall on their way to investigate the death of one of his men.

As they rounded the last corner, Lucy pushed the confusion aside. There was nothing she could do to answer those questions now, she had a job to do. She’d worry about her personal life later. Much later.

The noise from the crowd of soldiers gathered in the hall was deafening. Drog barked an order and the wall of blue parted like the proverbial seas, bringing instant silence. Lucy sprayed on the protective covering for her hands and approached the victim.

The soldier was white as a sheet, with telltale tinges of blue around his mouth. He looked so young! The sadness and anger at the sheer waste of a life hit her in the gut.
