Nephilim Nation

Standing on a dais, emblazoned in light, stood the leaders of the Nephilim Nation. The first thing that struck me was that they were all male, though Nephilim are by definition the sons of angels. One stood up front, his fiery auburn hair a mass of short curls, angry blue eyes and dressed in jeans and a T-shirt that outlined his arms and chest. All were barefoot. Then another, like Aaron with scarlet hair but his fell to his waist, dark brows framed his elongated face, he wore no shirt, only black jeans with bespoke armour that covered his shoulders. Another, with caramel hair that hung below his shoulders, his golden-brown skin adorned with runes, white wings tucked behind him. Another looked younger, fair of face and hair, snowy skin. He stood a little away from the others, cherry lips and innocent eyes watched eagerly and eyed us with surprise. From the side of the room, with massive pure white wings and golden intricate tattoos, his shaven beard and dark hair, wearing just jeans and a sword. And by the look of his dark eyes and wide lips, interest.

I exhaled sharply, seeing seated on a wooden chair, a raven perched on the cresting rail of his chair, Hakon.

Lips pressed in a tight line that matched his hard eyes, his black clothing matching his mood as he eyed Joash. A flash of a glance to the vibrant auburn-haired Nephilim who stood out front, the Nephilim giving Hakon the slightest nod as he inhaled deeply, wetting his bottom lip with his tongue.

The room itself was sparse. Golden flooring, some carved wooden chairs, and the star-shaped emblazoned icon.

I opened my mouth to speak, and Hakon took his cue. “Ah, I see you’re surprised to see old Hakon here. For how could a vampire be welcome in the Nephilim Nation? Indeed, Joash, you especially must be pondering that. And I see, Joash, that you’ve been flirting with my ex. Anyone would think you want to be me, have my life- not surprising I’m sure. I’ve worked for the Nephilim going on a thousand years. See,” he held up his wrist, “unlike your hospitality, Joash, they healed me.” His stare dropped from Joash, scanned Eva and then fell onto me. “Lucifer, my old mate, how’s your brother? We know all your secrets, boys- all of them. Your next question should be, are you guests or prisoners?”

The auburn-haired Nephilim jumped off the dais. His stern face softened. “Well, you are certainly not prisoners. We humour Hakon, after all, Joash, you needed a lesson. Stabbing a vampire such as him, show some respect next time.”

I grimaced at Joash, who glared at the auburn-haired Nephilim.

“My name is Baraqiel, named after my father, an archangel. Yes, we are all male on this council, Lucifer. We are the sons of the archangels and by definition all Nephilim are male.
