On most days they ventured into one of the surrounding villages, often visiting a local restaurant for lunch or afternoon tea. It was nearly a week after they arrived that they found themselves visiting the wonderful Villa Valmarana Bressan, designed by the famous architect Andrea Palladio.

Rosa enjoyed the rather stark symmetry of the ancient house in its beautiful gardens, and Bobby commented that he thought it would make a wonderful location for a movie. This started a conversation on the sorts of characters and stories that might inhabit such a setting, and Rosa was reminded of how much she and Bobby had in common.

They both had a strong sense of curiosity, and shared an interest in exploring new places and observing new people. Rosa loved literature, and the idea of one day writing a screen-play also appealed. She and Bobby discussed their ideas further over lunch, delighted to find a charming restaurant in the nearby town of Monticello Conte Otto.

The food since they’d arrived in Italy had been wonderful, but even so, this place was on another level altogether. Rosa indulged in the rare treat of scallops, and never had anything melted in her mouth so succulently. She closed her eyes in appreciation, not realising that Roberto was enjoying the opportunity to watch her. Was this how she’d looked as she came?

Not for the first time he wished that he’d been able to see her as they made love. But most of all, he wished they could do it again – very soon. He missed her so much it was an ache, and even though he spent almost every waking moment in her company, it could not compensate for the need to be completely hers, and for her to know it.

The rest of the meal proved as delicious as the starter, and it was some time before they eventually managed to get up from the table. Just as they were about to leave the restaurant they were hailed by a couple sitting not far from the door.

The woman gestured for Roberto and Rosa to join them, and Bobby agreed with alacrity. Steering Rosa towards their table, he kissed the woman on each cheek and shook hands with the man before sitting down opposite them with Rosa by his side.

“Ciao – ciao Bella.” Roberto was grinning broadly. “What a pleasure to see you both again.” He turned back to his stepsister.

“Rosa, this is my old friend the Contessa Ysabella di Zanotti and her brother Matteo Risso. Their family come from a large estate not far from here. Bella and Matteo, this is my English stepsister Rosa.”

Roberto made the introductions with a certain amount of satisfaction. Perhaps some additional society might be a good thing for them? It might even stir up new emotions in Rosa and help to put her feelings for him into a new perspective.

Rosa could see how pleased Bobby was to meet the Contessa again. It was hardly surprising, as she exuded charm and sophistication in addition to her striking good looks.
