Chapter 10

Pepper

Thirty long minutes I endured of listening to Rob drone on about random crap that I couldn’t care less about, before he finally passed out, face down on the table. It was almost funny watching the drugs take over his system. He was slurring his words and swaying about in his chair like a drunk man. I just sat and chewed my food quietly, letting him carry on. He loves the sound of his own voice anyway, so my input wasn’t required much.

Now that he’s out cold, I can finally start to enjoy myself. I’d forgotten what a self-indulgent, boring prick he is. Looking back, I don’t know how I ever put up with him.

Leisurely, I get up from the table and pour myself a glass of wine. There’s no need to rush, he’ll be out for hours. I let the cool, crisp liquid slide down my throat while I ponder what to do first. I settle on clearing away after dinner, so I’ve got plenty of room. I realize I can’t move the table without tying Rob to the chair first, otherwise he’s going to fall flat on his face. Which would be amusing, but less than helpful as he’s a dead weight right now and I’d never be able to lift him back onto the chair by myself.

My mind flashes to Blake. He could lift Rob so easily. Part of me thinks I should have included him in this—that we could have done it together—but I know deep down I’m doing the right thing.

Moments later, I return from the shed with cable ties and rope. I searched many things on the internet in preparation for tonight, one of them being how to tie secure knots. That reminds me, I must erase my search history later. When I’m done, I take a step back, admiring my handiwork. Rob’s ankles are bound to the chair legs, and his wrists to the arms of the chair. Thick bands of rope encircle his chest, keeping him flat to the back of the chair. You’re never getting out of that, prick.

I’m panting from the effort that took. Kidnap and torture are proving to be surprisingly strenuous and I’ve barely even started yet. I finish the remainder of my glass of wine before making my way to the bedroom to get changed. If I’m going to truly instil fear, then I need to look the part. I learned that from the best. Visions of Blake, bare-chested and wearing a mask, flash through my mind, making all the muscles south of my waist clench and tingle. Now is not the time—I need to focus.

When I return, I’m wearing the black vinyl pants I bought at the store with Blake. After the little incident in the changing room, I still went back and bought them, they seemed just right for this occasion. I’m also wearing one of Blake’s black hoodies which is enormous on me, and a scary-ass black mask with scratched out crosses for eyes.
