Leaux angrily stared down at Cortez as he continued separating the weed for future blunts. She hated how much of a weed head he was slowly becoming. It was bad enough his dreads were growing at rapid speeds making him look even more like the typical stoner. She had always joked about him looking like a Wiz Khalifa look alike, but now he seriously did. He seemed completely unbothered by her presence as he gave this weed his sole and undivided attention.

Rolling her eyes, Leaux stomped away as she headed towards the bedroom slamming and locking the door behind her. She couldn't stand being in the same room as Cortez, let alone sharing the same air with him. He wasn't the same person he was before and Leaux was uncertain how much of his new found attitude she could tolerate.

Listening to the sounds of Leaux softly crying behind the door tugged at Cortez's emotions. He wished he could just turn off emotions, but he couldn't. He was angry and he was upset. He knew he should have been jumping for joy for having a women like Leaux who had her man's back despite anything, but he couldn't. Cortez's pride was causing him to transform into another version of himself.

Lighting the freshly rolled blunt Cortez deeply inhaled the strong drug allowing it to take over his body. Closing his eyes involuntarily the same movie played throughout Cortez's mind that had been playing since he left Louisiana.

Every moment Cortez shut his eyes for even a millisecond he saw flashes of Jerred shooting Denver. He would always quickly open his eyes and shut them again in hopes of the visions disappearing. Yet the moment he shut them again he saw the empty, emotionless, stare Jerred gave him before driving off without him leaving him to take the fall for shooting Denver. It was the same movie every second his eyes shut.

Cortez could still feel the wind knocking against his body as he attempted to evade the officer who chased him from the scene. Even worse he could still see the look in Leaux's eyes as he was placed in the back of the squad car. It didn't matter how many second, minutes, hours, or days went by Cortez couldn't escape the finally moments of his former life. In a bizarre, twisted way Cortez felt he had died and been reborn as the pathetic piece of man he currently was.

Cortez missed the old him. He wasn't always happy, but at least he felt like a man. He was consumed constantly with guilt mixed with pity. Every day Cortez prayed he would wake up a new man, but every day he was sadden by only feeling as worse as he did the day before. He was miserable with himself and felt worthless. He wanted badly to be able to express his feelings to Leaux, but every time he tried his words came across as harsh and angry. He wished Leaux could see past the angry he displayed and saw how he truly felt like she had been able to before.
