Though Jessica had originally only intended to stay an hour at most, long enough to have a meal with Anderson and discuss whatever it was he’d wanted to run by her, once they’d cleared the air on his idea for the benefit, she had ended up spending the rest of the evening with him. Once they’d finished their dinner and had lingered for a bit over coffee, they’d eventually made their way to his office, to go over the details of the excursions and private lessons he’d decided on for the retreat. She’d even taken the time to call her father and asked his opinion on the idea for the benefit, then had asked him to run it by the rest of the committee. She’d thought it would take some time for them to deliberate on it, but within only half an hour the agreement for the arrangement had come back unanimous, and enthusiastic. So once they’d finished the itinerary for the excursions, they’d moved on to the beginning stages of planning out the benefit.

She hadn’t expected to spend the majority of the evening with him, and had been surprised when she’d looked at her watch and realized she had. Then, just as she’d been about to make her excuses and head home, he’d asked her to join him for a drink, and she simply hadn’t had it in her to say no, because the truth of the matter was, she liked spending time with him. And the more time she spent with him, the more she wanted to spend with him. Which was why she’d agreed to have dinner with him the next two nights as well, as they continued to work together on the benefit.

Then, somehow, it was the first day of the retreat, and Jessica wondered where the last week had gone since the day Anderson had arrived in town.

Rising early, she greeted her day in her usual way, then settled down at her table to go over the schedule for the day while she had her breakfast. There weren’t any excursions planned for that day, as everyone would be arriving and getting settled into their suites, but she was still expected at The Manor, for introductions and to get a feel for the group. The itineraries were all printed, the retreat packages made up and already delivered to each VIP’s suite, but nothing was set in stone, and if she got a feeling that something might not jibe with one or more of the group, it would give her a chance to make some adjustments.

Thinking that, she wrote herself a note in the margins of her own itinerary, then got up and returned to her room to get ready for the day. Since she’d be spending the majority of it at The Manor with Anderson and his brother’s VIPs, she decided on a blouse in a bold, bright emerald, and matched it with her one and only black blazer, deciding they would help her feel more professional when she added them to her dress slacks.
