Bryce positioned himself front row, center stage and waited for the inevitable moment, camera at the ready. Dale pulled Lucy into his arms, dipped her like they were doing the tango, and laid a big, long wet one on the girl.

Bryce snapped the picture, flinching at the roar from the delighted crowd. All around him, men yelled, “Yeah, boy, show her how the Army does it!”

“Now that's a pass!”

“Hey, maybe you ought to give the Navy a shot!”

Harmless all in all, and for a good cause, still everything about this tour bothered Bryce. Lucy was . . . more classy than all this. He chanted silently it's for a good cause, it's for a good cause, and pulled out his notebook.

Sarcasm welling up, he scribbled the hackneyed phrase and a good time was had by all at the bottom of the page.
