Chapter Nine
Sullivan
If there is anything that I hate it’s bad dreams. I’m sure most people do but when they follow you into the waking realm, they’re doubly crappy. The nightmare that I’d been stuck in came with me into Duane’s room, riding my back like some sort of evil cloak. I sat up with a gasp, throwing my fists into the air in some sleep-addled attempt to punch Julian—who was a hideous squid—in his squidgy face. I shouted something indecipherable, a yelp really, and then blinked at the sun streaming into this unfamiliar room. The memory of coming back here and curling up into Duane last night appeared, and I sighed in relief. Heart hammering, the feel of those nightmarish tentacles around me, I had a slight meltdown for a second. So much for the respite.
“Oh God,” I whimpered, covering my face with the pillow and crying into it until I could shake the memory of Julian’s suction cups stuck to my naked flesh. They were touching me everywhere, slimy tentacles slipping between my legs, around my arms, curling around my neck, and his bulbous face had been right in front of mine. I shuddered and coughed. The pillow was quite damp by the time I pulled myself together.
Lowering the pillow, I sucked in fresh air, the coolness felt good on my face.
“It was just a dream,” I whispered over and over while holding the pillow tightly to my chest. I’d never been so scared of any dream in my life, and that includes the one I had about some random hookup in a bar and they’d been giving me head in a bathroom. He turned into that fucking horror movie clown with all those rows and rows of teeth and lives in the sewers. He bit my dick clean off. Needless to say, I woke up from that one holding my cock and bleating like a sheep. Aliyah made me vow to never watch scary movies or let strangers suck my dick in a bathroom ever again. That was a promise I was happy to make.
Duane was nowhere to be seen. I used the sheet to wipe my cheeks, slid out from under the covers, and pulled on my pants and one of his big fleece tops. It was green and had a picture of Voltron on it. The dogs greeted me when I stepped out of the bedroom. I patted both then hurried into the tiny bathroom to piddle. After I flushed and washed my hands, I splashed cold water on my face, scowled at the red eyes looking back at me then ran my damp palms over my hair. It was all flyaway and knotted. I needed my hairbrush, but it was out in the living room in my tote, for now, a wetting was all it was getting.
“You’re such a poetic thing,” I said to my reflection then jerked my chin up a bit. It was time to plaster on my stage persona. The one that
