Logan

I wanted to help Emily with her problems. I knew she said she wanted to do it herself, but I care for her too much to let it go at that.

“Hey, Veronica?” I said, paging my secretary over the intercom. “Can you put me through with my private investigator, please?” I asked her.

“Not a problem. He is already on line 2 for you,” she said.

I thanked her and picked up the receiver to tell him his next assignment. I wanted him to investigate VioGen, Emily’s family business, and Stefan Valentine, Emily’s father. I wanted to find out what was happening to the company, and why Emily’s father was hellbent on finding sponsors for it.

But most of all, I wanted to know why he did what he did to his daughter.

It took a couple of days, but what I found was staggering, but answered a lot of questions.

Stefan Valentine was a gambler and a bad one at that. For the past couple of years, he had been frequenting bars, casinos, and brothels, squandering their fortune. He was deeply in the red. This senseless man had taken out multiple loans and didn’t have the ability to pay them.

That was where VioGen came in. What little the company made went to his addictions, and the rest, if there was any, went to her mother’s expenditures.

It was terrible. Even if Emily were to talk some sense into her father, it would be too late to save the company. VioGen was already going up in flames, and Emily would be devastated.

What do I do?

I crossed my fingers and thought about my options, going over everything carefully and methodically like I always did with a business problem. If I couldn’t pull it off, I’d lose millions, and VioGen would crash. But if I did pull it off…

I got up and took a deep breath, calming myself down before enacting my decision. I had to do this.

For her, I could do anything.

“Veronica, have our research team construct a feasibility study on VioGen,” I ordered, shutting my eyes. “Then have our attorneys make a contract,” I told her.

Emily…forgive me.
