“Come,” Apollyon said, holding out his hand. I took it and let him help me off the table, but when I saw that he was leading me toward that massive bench, I put on the brakes.

“What is that thing?”

“It serves many purposes,” he answered.

“And tonight?”

He smirked. “Primarily, an exam table.”

When he pulled out two stirrup attachments from the edge of the bench, I gulped. “So the full workup, huh?”

“Would you prefer I had someone else do this?”

“Suit yourself,” he said, pulling on a pair of stretchy black gloves and squirting something into his hand that I hoped was lubricant.
