Chapter 14: Tarrytown

The following Monday, Tom Justice and Shane McWilliams stand in a Midtown South apartment speaking with one Bill Tucker. Tucker was once in the employ of The Reaper and admitted to being involved in multiple shootings and contract killings for The Reaper directly, and also for other members of the organization.

Bill is a very gruff, unpolished man. Tall and athletic looking but with an icy, cool stare almost as if a man with no soul.

“Tucker,” Tom says, “This is completely off the record. There will be no charges brought against you. It’s not you that we are after, only The Reaper.”

Shane continues, “Yes, Bill, anything at all no matter how trivial.”

“We really need some help, Tucker,” Tom says, “We are struggling here. I can guarantee you that if you help us I will give your name to the Mayor for special consideration.”

“You just need to know that I will not testify if you catch him,” Tucker replies firmly.

Tom nods, “Nor would I expect you to.”

“With his actions, we really don’t need any more corroborating testimony. We plan to just hold him indefinitely without a trial if we can get away with it.” Shane says, “This time the FBI is pressing to try him for the hotel bombing charges and it should be an entirely different outcome in federal court.”

“You know he doesn’t leave witnesses alive, right?” Tucker says,

“I once saw him kill a two-year-old kid.” Tucker continues, “I mean as if that little booger is going to identify him in a fucking lineup or something. It was just crazy!”

“No court, no witness, I promise,” Tom responds.

“Not only will I not testify, but this entire conversation has to stay off the record,” Tucker says, “Because if word gets out on the street that I talked to you, then I would be suddenly ventilated in my head.”

“We understand,” Shane says.

“Or he slits my throat.” Tucker continues, “I once saw him do that, he takes the knife, cuts the guy’s throat all the way back to his spine, made like a ‘pez dispenser’ out of his fucking head, man.”

“Completely understand, Bill,” Shane says, “This is partly why we are meeting at your place and not at the precinct.”

“I don’t know how much I can help,” Tucker says, “One thing I do remember is that The Reaper would always refer to his ‘Boss’.”

“Anything specific?” Shane asks.

“I remember the name ‘Angel Oscuro’. Wait, wait… it was ‘Ahente Oscuro’ I think or something like that. I never got a description of this Oscuro guy, but this might be worth checking out.”

“Anything else specific that we could use?” Tom asks.

“I know that when things get too hot, they like to stay outside the city,” Tucker says.

“We figured that, but where?” Tom asks.

“It used to be Jersey, but Jersey City got too hot” Tucker responds, “Then they have a supplier in Connecticut so they like to stay within about 30 minutes of Greenwich.”

“Specifics, Bill.” Shane persists, “Do you have the address, or, at least, the city?”

Bill Tucker thinks for a minute.
