Chapter 14 – Speak Now

Noah and I stayed up late, talking, kissing, and talking some more until I guess we both passed out, but the sound of someone in my kitchen woke me up, making me almost jump out of my skin. I knew I had locked the door, but did I lock all the locks? Who the hell was in my apartment?

I climbed out of bed, grabbing my silky purple robe that was on the chair beside my door and peaked outside of the door, seeing someone leaning over where I fed Reba.

“Alex?” I asked, walking out of my bedroom to see Alex jump, turning around to look at me. “Oh my God, you scared the shit out of me.”

“Oh my God, you’re back!” he exclaimed, sitting the bag of cat food down and rushed over to hug me. “I forgot you were coming back. You didn’t call me to tell me you were home and you know I’m going to need all the details.”

“It was a long day … My job is moving to Miami and it’s just been, crazy,” I said as Alex’s eyes grew wide. “What?”

“There is an almost naked boy bander in your bedroom doorway,” Alex said as I sighed. “Noah, fancy to see you here in your boxers!” Alex walked over, shaking his hand. “Obviously, my best friend has not kept me in the loop.”

“I think I should go get dressed,” Noah chuckled as Alex turned around to look at me, mouthing ‘Oh my God!’ to me.

“Alex, it’s not what it looks like, I promise,” I said as he walked closer to me. “His parents are moving to Atlanta and he was here to look at places with them and then we grabbed dinner …”

“And his clothes fell off in your bedroom …”

“It’s complicated,” I whispered, looking to see Noah walking out of my bedroom, dressed and trying to put his shoes on as he walked. “We didn’t set the alarm,” I said as he nodded. “You probably should get going.”

“Yeah,” Noah said, looking at Alex and then back at me. “You’re the best friend, right? That’s always with her?”

“That would be moi,” Alex said as Noah smiled and looked back at me.

“I’ll call you tonight when I get to the hotel, okay?” he said as I nodded slowly, staring at him. “Just think about what all we said and let Dylan and I know when you want to come back out. Okay?”

“Okay, I will,” I said as he held his jacket in his hands and sighed, looking over at Alex and then back at me. “I trust him with my life, Noah. It’s okay.”

With that, he gave me a little smile, leaning over to kiss me gently on the lips before telling Alex goodbye and walked out the door. I sighed, locking the door and turned around looking at Alex whose mouth was wide open, obviously in a state of shock.
