Chapter 7

Rebecca had apologized to Curtis the next day and arranged for them to be a prince and a princess for the work party that weekend. She had spent all Friday night alone, drinking wine and preparing their costumes. When she was done she felt pretty satisfied, so much so that at one point she found herself typing out a text to Sydney to show her pictures of the outfits. Before she hit “send” she remembered Stacey’s unspoken do-not-share policy and thought better of it. She would let it be a surprise to Sydney and everyone else at the party. Curtis’ costume was the typical Prince outfit, and Rebecca’s was a long blue gown.

The night of the party, she and Curtis arrived around the same time as most everyone else and migrated into the building in a large group. There were doctors, chefs, a Tupac, and even a few Disney characters that walked in around her. She spent more than a few minutes admiring everyone’s costumes and trying to figure out who a few of the people were whose costumes covered their faces. Mindy was monkey or opossum as far as she could tell, and Dean from the mailroom was a doctor.

The open atrium of the office building had been transformed into a party hall with dangling strings of lights and lanterns. There was a DJ set up in one of the far corners near the elevator who playing Top 40 tunes. There were a group employees dancing in the middle of the space but most of them were scattered around the food tables talking amongst themselves. Rebecca and Curtis inserted themselves into a few different conversations but Rebecca became distracted because Sydney hadn’t arrived yet. Right when she was about to pull out her phone and call her, Curtis demanded a dance and pulled her out to the middle of the floor where everyone else was rocking back and forth to the music.

Reluctantly, she put her hands around Curtis’ neck and began to dance to the beat of the music. They slowly turned in circles and after about three rotations, when her face was towards the front door of the building; she saw her. In a beautiful white ball gown, which made her outdone in her blue floor length gown, in walked Sydney. Wow. She looks amazing. Chills ran up Rebecca’s arms but their growth was stunted by Curtis who pulled her closer to him. She tried not to show him how distracted she was at the sight of her assistant, so she waited until she was positioned in that direction again so that she could look at her even more.

When she was able to get another look and fully take in Sydney and the costume she wore. Rebecca instantly realized that she must have been dressed up as a princess as well. The gown sparkled all over and the bodice fit tight up against her chest. It was so tight, in fact that her breasts bulged up and out of it; which made them appear much larger than they really were.
