Chapter 5
“What do you think?”
Pixie stared through the dirt caked windshield of Taylin’s truck. Wildflowers and swaying grass filled the small valley with pine trees dotting the outline of the field. White clouds floated lazily in the blue sky and a soft breeze stirred the aspen trees in a metallic whisper.
A photographers dream: the perfect light, the perfect setting, and the perfect woman to model.
She glanced over at Taylin staring out the front windshield, a wistful smile curling up the corner of her pink lips. Today she had dressed in a pair of skinny jeans with ankle high boots and a dark blue shirt that hugged her fit frame perfectly, a line of pale skin visible between the hemline of her shirt and jeans. Her auburn locks were combed until they were silky and little waves curls bounced when she turned to look over at Pixie with a expectant look.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” She asked, raising an eyebrow questioningly.
The sides of Pixie’s neck flared at being caught openly admiring her. She cleared her throat, shifting in the passenger seat against the fluttery feeling building within her. “Nothing, I was just thinking you look good with this light. This is a perfect place for photography shoots.”
“During the summer season it is. You can’t get up here during the winter because it gets completely snowed in.”
They slipped out of Taylin’s battered truck and walked through the wispy grass to the center of the field. Pixie readied her camera, clicking it to the right amount of the shutter speed and took one experimental picture of their surroundings. When she turned back around, her breath caught in her throat. The sunlight gently cradled Taylin in its warmth, her head titled back in pleasure at the warmth and a small content smile graced her face. She shoved both her hands in her back pockets to lean back even further, breathing in deeply.
Pixie’s fingers trembled. The impulse to rush over and kiss Taylin was so strong that she nearly dropped her camera to do it. She reigned in her self control and raised her camera, circling around a unaware Taylin and clicked the button.
Taylin blinked at the sound of the shutter. She turned her head to look at Pixie in confusion. “I wasn’t even ready for that or posed.”
“That’s the best part about photography. You capture people when they aren’t posing and it’s the most beautiful.” Pixie said, motioning for Taylin to walk around. “Just forget that I have a camera and tell me something about yourself.”
“Like what?”
“Your career choice. Tell me about being a first responder for the wilderness.”
They next hour flew by with the sound of Pixie’s camera shutter and Taylin’s soft voice echoing in the peaceful air around them. Sometimes Pixie stopped to listen to Taylin talk about her training to be a first responder, how to track someone who is lost and leaving clues behind.
“If you ever see this,” Taylin said, reaching down to a pile of large
