Chapter 12

Spencer

I wasn’t completely sure it was a good idea, but my indecision wasn’t because of the concussion. I’d have felt conflicted no matter what state my head was in.

It was one thing for Devin to suspect the lingerie and submission turned me on, but it felt like another to see the evidence tenting the high-heel-patterned pants. High heels. No matter how often I changed clothes at his house, there was always another pair of pajama pants that weren’t quite masculine.

He was picking them out for me.

At first my brain hadn’t caught up with that fact. Yesterday I had vague memories of seeing the pants and acknowledging the patterns, but I hadn’t really grasped what I was wearing or what it meant. Devin was making a conscious choice to dress me in feminine things.

There was a part of me that pointed out he was in charge, so if he wanted me in pants with high heels or butterflies, that wasn’t up to me, but I knew he’d see that as a cop-out. He might let me get away with it for a little while but not for very long.

Devin was tender and careful with me, but he was just as stubborn as Eli in his own way.

When we were sitting on the couch and he was nibbling on my neck, a shower had sounded like a good idea. But as we walked into the bedroom, I wasn’t so sure. He’d been bathing me for two days because he seemed to have visions of me drowning in the tub if left on my own, but I’d been so out of it, being embarrassed hadn’t really occurred to me.

I wasn’t up to full speed by any means, but I was mentally aware enough that I was volleying between turned on and ready to hide. Being aroused was winning, though. Evidently, dicks worked even when brains didn’t. It made some of the crazy complaints I’d heard women aim at other guys over the years make sense. They were more right than they realized.

As we got to his bathroom, Devin stopped and turned to look me in the eyes, still holding my hand like he was grounding me to the earth. “Do you understand what a safeword is?”

When I nodded slowly, he gave me a smile that seemed somehow sweet and sexy, then kept going. “I didn’t make sure you had a safeword when you first came over because I wasn’t sure you’d remember it. But now your memory seems to be doing better, so I want you to know that if you tell me red, everything stops. I won’t push beyond your limits and we’ll talk about why it was too much.”

The look on his face said he was expecting a response and was willing to wait until the zombie apocalypse to get it. Taking a deep breath, I nodded again. “Yes, I know what it is and I’ll remember it.”

Thankfully, that seemed good enough for him because he kissed my forehead and his smile changed to tender and sweet again.
