Chapter Ten

I managed to slide off Priscilla, my strength sapped. It was as if she had milked every last ounce from me, and though I wanted to stay buried inside her, I knew I’d been rough. As she curled up against me, I held her close, my fingers playing in her long, soft locks. She’d been everything I’d expected and more. The sounds she’d made… the softness of her body… the way she welcomed me into her… it completely blew my mind.

“Are you okay?” I asked, my voice rough. I was terrified I’d gone too far. I had convinced myself I would be better for her than inexperienced, selfish boys but—

“Define okay,” she murmured. “I’m not sure if I’m alive still.”

I rumbled in laugher and slid my hand over her shoulder. She scooted up my body so she could look at me, her eyes shining with the afterglow of great sex. She kissed me, and I returned the gesture, her lips plump and warm.

“Was I too rough?” I inquired, needing to know. She did something to me, made me lose control.

Priscilla frowned as if she didn’t understand the question. “No. I liked everything you did. I feel totally and completely awesome. I think I had a lot of frustrations pent up.”

“Good.” After a moment, I grinned. “You have a way of driving me wild.”

She smiled on an exhale. “You’re not so innocent yourself, Mister.”

Her playfulness riled me up and I wanted to go at it again but I was determined to savor every moment with Priscilla. She laid her head on my shoulder as we relaxed, her body fitting perfectly against mine. Her finger traced paths over my tattoos and though it felt nice, I knew she had questions. Especially when she found the scar that cut a line across my abdomen.

“Seventeen,” I said and cleared my throat. “Knife right to the gut. Hurt like a mother fucker.”

She tipped her head up to look at me, her eyes big and round. I knew this couldn’t last forever but had hoped I might have a little more time before I told her the truth. I wasn’t going to lie to her. I supposed on some level, I hoped she might run because Lord knew that I couldn’t say no to her and we were going to have to deal with the consequences of what we’d just done.

“My father wasn’t around a whole lot and Mamma worked two jobs to support me. I spent a lot of time on the streets and joined a gang at thirteen. They had me do small stuff for years like deliver drug packages to their dealers, rip off old ladies and the like. Nothing too hardcore. That’s the gang’s insignia,” I said and pointed to the faded tattoo above my heart. “By fifteen, I was in deep and when my father hurt Mamma one time too many, I went to my leader and asked him to help me get my father gone. We beat him into an inch of his life.
