One of two things is going to happen. I’m either going to kill every male in this room or I’m taking Sloane over my shoulder and leaving, consequences be damned. I don’t think I could hate anyone more than the bastard I’m planning to ruin but honestly, Kronin is coming in a close second. The happiness from earlier? Quickly fading as I sit at the poker table. Sloane stands behind me, her hands resting on my chair when I really want them on my shoulders. The others are spread throughout the room, Kaden with a beer in hand and keeping an eye on everything no doubt, while Alicia talks on and on to Blaine, his posture more tense as the minutes tick by. Then there’s River who is just doing whatever the hell it is that he does, looking amused when really the situation isn’t fucking funny. At all.

When it’s time to show our hand, I smile as I realize that I won the round, Sloane bouncing behind me slightly no doubt resisting the urge to say something adorable. I probably would have pulled her down on my lap if asshole one and two weren’t right fucking there. I arch a brow realizing how much that round was worth before starting the next one. I play several hands and each time I win or do fairly fucking well. Sloane squeezes my shoulder and instantly Kronin and Van Der Beck look at it like two hawks, causing me to nearly roll my eyes. Instead, I just let her leave her hand there … let them think whatever the hell they want. I’m getting tired of this shit anyway and I’m damn close to just hauling her against me and kissing her in public to prove just who exactly she belongs to.

“Be right back,” she chimes and I look over to Kaden who I know will make sure that no one tries to intercept her as she goes to get a drink or whatever it is that she has planned. There are a lot of men here and almost all of them are looking at Sloane, so I have no doubt that they will use her walking away from us as an opportunity of some sort.

While she’s gone, I lose two hands not that the money means much to me, if we’re being honest but since we don’t know what the hell we’re doing after this and most of our money stateside is no longer accessible … some extra would be nice. I don’t want Sloane to ever have to stress about something like that, which is such a weird thought process but still, being so protective is kind of unavoidable as much as my constantly growing feelings for her.

When she comes back, her fingers grazing the back of my shoulders lightly, I try not to jump and I nearly curse realizing I’m getting fucking hard from her just touching my shoulder now. I’m losing it, clearly.

Then I win the next three hands, and my eyes widen as I realize that I’ve easily won over two million.
