Chapter Thirteen

Jemma

“Stop looking at me.”

“You’re sitting right across from me. Where else would you like to me look?” Maggie asked.

I rolled my eyes and stabbed a piece of lettuce with my fork. “Anywhere but at me.” We had sat down at a table five minutes ago and all Maggie had done was stare at me and sip her soda. I wasn’t interested in talking to her about what she thinks might have happened in my office between Jet and me.

I didn’t even know what had happened in my office ten minutes ago.

My day had started normally and then all of a sudden, I slammed into Jet outside of the bathroom and then I was transported into my office with his arms wrapped around me.

I couldn’t get my head wrapped around it.

“You and Mr. Biker looked pretty cozy when I walked in.”

I rolled my eyes and stabbed an onion drowning in French dressing. “Me sitting at my desk and Jet on the other side is cozy to you?” I laughed. “You’re making me wonder if you and Perry might need some spicing up.

“Perry and I are just fine, Jem. We’re talking about you and Jet.”

“We were?” I asked. “I don’t know why that would be.”

“You can play dumb with me all you want, but I can see that something is going on between the two of you. You would have to be blind to not see the way that man looks at you.”

It was noticeable the way Jet looked at me? I just caught the way he looked at me ten minutes ago. Maybe I had been blind the whole time.

Maggie leaned forward. “Jemma,” she whispered.

I looked around the dining room. “What?” I whispered back.

She grabbed her butter knife and pointed it at me. “Tell me this instant what is going on with you and Jet.”

“Are you brandishing a butter knife at me?” I laughed.

“We are friends, Jemma. You have to tell me what is going on in your love life.”

“Is that a rule or something?”

Now it was Jemma’s turn to roll her eyes. “I tell you everything about me.”

“I didn’t know you were hooking up with Perry after it happened.”

She flitted her hand at me. “I would have told you before it happened, but I didn’t even know it was going to happen until it happened.”

“That’s a lot of happening going on,” I chuckled.

“Jemma,” she hissed.

“Fine,” I drawled. I set my fork down and leaned toward her. “He wants me and not Mary.”

Maggie reared back slightly. “There was a time he wanted Mary over you?”

“No,” I corrected. “He wants me to be his therapist instead of Mary. He was upset that I had switched myself with Mary.”

“You never did tell me why you did that,” Maggie mused.

I waved my hand at her. “It was nothing, really. Just a misunderstanding.”

“A misunderstanding that must now be understood?” Maggie eyed me closely. “What do you feel for Mr. Biker, Jemma.”

I glanced around the dining room and lowered my voice. “I don’t know, Maggie. I barely know the man, but I feel more for him than I ever have for a man.
