• Chapter Fourteen •

Jeremiah and Timothy looked at one another as they observed a standing ovation taking place in the United Nations building. They wondered if the people in that room had heard the same speech that they had.

Timothy’s father asked, “Do you think the man we just heard is the next world leader?”

Timothy responded, “I hope he’s not the last world leader.”

Jeremiah said, “It’s too early to know for sure, but he fits the profile. He has the world’s ear. He’s very charismatic, and he seems to have a plan that appeals to people. He’s certainly a man to watch. What do you think Timothy?”

“I think he’ll have a fight if he tries to take our guns away. I don’t think Americans will stand for it.”

“Think about what he said, Timothy. If he’s not afraid to take weapons from terrorists, and he’s willing to do whatever it takes, how will you be able to resist armed troops at your door? Do you really want to go down that road?”

“No, sir, I guess I don’t, but there are many who will.”

“Yes, and they will die. I don’t think this man would have a problem prying the gun from someone’s cold, dead hands. He meant business. Let’s see what the commentators have to say.”

They sat quietly, listening to what everyone had to say, and there seemed to be agreement that desperate measures were needed. Order needed to be established. The ambassadors were milling around the room now and discussing the plan set before them. The world leaders would all remain in place during a transition period as things were organized, and all countries would retain their autonomy unless there was another major event. In the event of a world emergency, all power would be granted to the new world Chancellor. As they studied the proposal line by line, they noticed a few things that they didn’t like, but they soon realized that it would take another earth shaking event before any of those measures would be implemented.

The heart of the plan involved a peace treaty that Israel, the Palestinians, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia would be required to sign. All weapons would be confiscated, and a United Nations peace keeping force would be stationed in each country until all arms were collected and all terrorist activities ended. There was also a clause that included Pakistan and Afghanistan. Since the Dome of the Rock had been destroyed, the Temple Mount would be granted back to Israel, and they could rebuild their Temple if they so desired. As a concession, Muslims would be given a new site to build on, and Palestinians would be granted recognition as an independent state, but all of what was currently Jerusalem would be a part of Israel. The Gaza Strip would remain in the hands of Palestinians, and any firing of missiles or terrorist acts would be immediately punished. The trouble makers would be tried in a world court, and if found guilty, they would be put to death.
