The hours flew by, and everything went smoothly. No crises, no problems, and even the lunch rush was handled with ease. While they were there, they verified their hours because Blake insisted, and their pleasure was evident as they saw the magic words—July5th: Wittington OFF, Davis OFF. Now they had to convince Blake’s parents that a camping trip was a wonderful experience to have, as well as a much needed respite from their hard work at Krystal Castle. As soon as their shift ended, they pedaled home right away, not taking time to chitchat with anyone. Renda was already there and had dinner in the oven.

“Hi, boys! How was work?”

“It was pretty busy, but I think we handled it pretty well, don’t you, Blake?”

The blond nodded his affirmation, sticking his head in the refrigerator.

“You two hungry?” Renda laughed, watching her son. “I’m going to take that as a yes. How about some fresh fruit skewers?”

Blake was ahead of her, pulling two of them out as she spoke. He handed one to Mark. “These look good. Thanks, Mom!”
