Day 168 p2

After Yeztli and her party left. I felt like I needed to calm down, so I suggested we have lunch. Sign quickly agreed, and like that, we sat down and had a little picnic under that large tree. After a few clicks on my phone, we were all set. The System gave us a blanket, a picnic basket full of yummy sandwiches, and a couple of thermoses filled with hot soup and cold water.

Once we started eating, I worried about attracting some of those large ants from earlier. But nothing ended up bothering us while we ate. In fact, nothing came anywhere close to the six meter wide clearing I created with my cleaning spell. Hopefully, the System will fix the damage I did here.

Before I knew it, we had finished the entire basket full of sandwiches. I ended up eating three fourths of them. For a moment, I thought Gluttony had activated, but after the sandwiches and all the soup, my hunger was sated. It must have been the biome that increased my appetite.

“Ok Sign, who should we recruit first? I like the look of that giant praying mantis from earlier. That one has to be a student, right? What do you think?” As soon as I finished eating, I questioned Sign.

I am guessing the insects that are being killed are like the food in this biome. That is why the Guardian doesn’t stop you from hurting them. They are food, and likely not sentient or sapient. Similar to the spirits that naturally spawn in our dungeon, hopefully. At the very least, I am sure they did not raise my kill count.

“You change gears fast, Lyeh. I’d like to talk about everything that just happened with that woman, but I can see that isn’t an option. We are going to have to sit down and discuss this with everyone, anyway. Ah, I guess it can be put off till later. Still, the idea of going back home. I am not sure that is a good idea for everyone.” Sounds like Sign is finally understanding me.

Smiling at Sign, I confirm his suspicions. This is countered by him with another of his exasperated gasps. What is he, some kind of old man? I wonder what Sign’s home was like for him to be this grumpy as a child? He needs to loosen up and act his age. We are never going to last, mentally and physically, ten or even five years in the Academy if we cannot have fun.

“Fine, Lyeh, we will look for someone. I can see that you have calmed down, but are still your usual self. By the way, that mantis isn’t a student. Most life-forms in this biome aren’t students. It looks like this biome is trying to recreate their natural environment, food chain, et al.” So I was half right?

Then is that fake life, like what the dungeon can make? I can’t tell the difference, but Sign can see the difference. Then there has to be some kind of tangible thing that separates them from real life-forms.
