It had been a whirlwind these last few weeks since we signed the deal. I had very little time to get Alex moved into the new manufacturing facility that Lexicon had secured for her. Thankfully, there was very little to move. None of her equipment was really needed because the new equipment was designed on a much larger scale, but she couldn’t bear to part with them, so I brought them along with her to the new facility and had them setup in her new corner office more as a memento than for actual use. I could understand the sentimental value there, and I wasn’t going to make her part with them.

Her new office was twice the size of the entire closet-like facility she had been using. It had both shocked and angered me to find out that she was both working and sleeping in her facility. If you could even call it that. The space was barely 1200 square feet and she had maximized every inch of the space. Ingredients were stockpiled from floor to ceiling along with shipping and packaging containers. I am not even quite sure how she managed to keep up the production numbers with such a small space. She must have been working around the clock.

That thought had angered me too, but not as much as when I had seen the cot sitting in what was essentially the mop closet. Then I had lost my shit. She had been shocked by my outrage and then embarrassment had taken over and she had given me a piece of her temper. Looking back, I knew I had handled the situation indelicately, but it frustrated me to know that she had subjected herself to those kinds of conditions. But I took comfort in knowing all that would be changing.

We were able to load what ingredient stock she had left in the back of a U-Haul and transport it over in one trip. Not that it was really needed. But she didn’t want anything to go to waste and I respected that. Once she had agreed to the contract and we had settled our differences, I had moved at lightning speed. We had locked ourselves in my boardroom for the first few days and pored over all the materials, equipment, licenses, packaging, and whatever else she could think of that we needed in order to get production going. I had even negotiated a two-week extension on the Natural Retailers contract.

They hadn’t wanted to at first, but when I kindly reminded them that she now had the financial backing of Lexicon Enterprises and I had contacts with Johnson & Johnson, Proctor & Gamble, and personally played golf with the CEO of Maybelline cosmetics at least once a month, they changed their tune. They wanted her product badly and after a little bit of blustering, caved to the extension. I had sweetened the deal for both of us and it would stand to make us all a ton of money.
