Chapter Seventeen

A New Home

Bella still weeps and asks when mother will return, but I don't think she will ever come back. We only have each other now. The Bella in my dream is so different than my real sister. I must be strong for both of us.

I can do things there that I could never do here in the real world. The things I build are incredible. Last night I filled a black void in favor of a jungle, pyramids, and produced water that filled the very sea I've read about in books.

What was once dark and terrifying is alive and beautiful. Wherever we might be, I do what I can to bring Bella comfort. We're a little older now, but not by much. I find it fascinating. It's my world, and it's exceptional. That's how I feel in the dream, but also when I wake. I know it isn't normal.

Lonewolf says he doesn't dream like this. He says I'm special if I get to return to a dream I like because he never dreams the same thing more than once and rarely has dreams he enjoys. Bella, I think she believes I'm making this up. She doesn't care to talk about it, but I know she has nightmares. She always has. For as long as I can remember, she'd always wake in the night, upset and frantic. Maybe she's jealous.

In the endless sail south, I find my dreams are the best part of my days.
