CHAPTER 14
The tingling vanished as my wrist went numb, just like he said. I held my breath, worried it would still hurt, or that Iâd hate it. I didnât even like kissing all that much. And now I was demanding a strange man put his mouth on me and do things to me.
If I woke up and found out this was all a fever dream I wouldnât be surprised. But I knew it wasnât. It was all too real to be a dream.
With one last hesitation he slowly, gingerly, sank his fangs into my skin. I felt nothing. But then he sealed his lips against my skin and drew my blood into his mouth.
A surge of warmth flooded me, making my scalp tingle, my ears warm, and my toes curl. I gasped, then sighed the air back out because I suddenly felt very, very relaxed. Vic moaned a little, his shoulders shuddering. The stone in my other hand stopped vibrating and when I pulled it away from the gashes, found them completely gone. Color began to return to his skin.
I braced myself against him because I was floating away on a cloud of ecstasy. The kind you feel after a really good massage or an orgasm. It was euphoric and addicting. I was nearing a warm sun when a hand cupped my face and a voice far in the distance said my name.
âWils? You doing okay?â It was Vic. His hand felt nice. Like a rough, but warm pillow. I leaned into it and purred like a cat.
I felt him move me, felt the warmth surround me, but I didnât take any of it in. I was too busy flying between the clouds.
âYouâre a hundred percent?â Kirk said. His voice echoed off the clouds.
âMore like a hundred and fifty,â Vic replied. His voice vibrated through me.
âWe need to go.â
âIâm not leaving her like this. Get everything else ready. I donât need a shower or new clothes.â
Leaving? Showers? What was all this about? I struggled to remember but it was hard to remember anything but clouds and sunshine. Nothing existed before this. Life had always been light and fluffy. Sweet, happy, kind. Like flying and existing on pure sunshine.
Something moved over me. Hands maybe? Yes, Vicâs hands. On my arms. Rubbing. âWils, I need to go, but I canât leave until you come down off this high. You need to follow my voice, okay? Follow it back to me.â
Right. He was going somewhere. Thatâs right. Somewhere on the other side of a door. Somewhere the sky was red. It all came back to me at once. The demons and monsters, the shaking mountain, the gashes in his abdomen. Life wasnât sunshine and rainbows. It never had been.
My eyes flew open. I was on the ground still, but now Vic cradled me against his body. I glanced at my wrist, but there was no evidence heâd bitten me at all.
âHeals fast,â he said simply. âHow are you doing?â
I felt like a million bucks.
