I woke up with a warm, sweaty body beside me. Ryan’s soft snoring made me smile. Memories of last night convinced my cock to harden and my libido to kick in. I wanted inside my lover again. I could tell from the way he was careful not to assume he’d sleep over that Ryan didn’t expect me to keep him.

I don’t know what bullshit story he told himself, but I could happily imagine waking up next to him for months, maybe years from now. Ryan might be a hard ass detective, but his gentle side ratcheted up the need inside me.

My last serious relationship had only lasted two months before I’d discovered my lover considered me an ATM machine and I kicked him out. I couldn’t imagine Ryan treating me the same way. His complete lack of interest in my art collection and lust over my mattress had me doubting he cared how many pennies were wallowing in the bank under my name.

“Hey, gorgeous.”

Ryan’s hot gaze finished bringing my cock from half-mast, to fully interested.

“Hi.” My phone beeped that I had a message. I cursed at the sound. “I hope that’s not the hospital. I was supposed to have today off.”

I had wanted to spend the day screwing my cop.

Ryan wrapped an arm around my waist and snuggled in close. I sighed. I never admitted it to anyone, but I loved to cuddle.

I kissed Ryan’s forehead then checked my text message.

If you know what’s good for you, you’ll leave Ryan alone.

I froze.

“What’s wrong?” Ryan’s soft voice took a hard edge.

“I think someone wants you.” I showed the message to Ryan.

“What the hell?”

“Do you have any heart-broken exes?”

Ryan shook his head. The sexual tension had been replaced with unease. I didn’t know what to make of the threat.

“No. I haven’t had any sort of relationship for a while. The last guy left me, so I doubt it’s him.”

His forehead creased with confusion, but I knew how people responded to him. Men and women were attracted to the sexy cop, and I couldn’t blame them. It didn’t mean I had to put up with a threat though.

“Who has your number?” Ryan asked. His hard expression told me he had turned to his cop mode.

“A lot of people. This is the one I give out so my patients all have access to me.”

Ryan pressed to listen to the message again. “I think you need to be careful, doc. Maybe I should keep my distance. If someone is watching me enough to know we’re dating, they must know we’ve spent the night together.”

I tightened my hold. “I’m not going to let you go because someone decides you belong to them.”

“I don’t want to be the reason you get hurt.”

“Then do some detective work and find out who’s after you.” I refused to give up. Although we had just started dating I had hopes this could lead somewhere.

“I will.” Ryan’s hard kiss served as a promise between us.

“The hospital hasn’t called me so I still have the day off.
