Luke wakes at three in the morning and can’t get back to sleep. His heart is actually racing with genuine anxiety. He’s already been diagnosed with the condition but has it under control. He sneaks from bed and rummages through his medicine cabinet and finds a slightly out of date bottle of Valium tablets. He pops a couple and rinses them down with a slurp from the tap.

Luke’s next task is to pull on clothing and head out to his garage. He opens the box with the surveillance camera and mic. Everything he needs to get them set up is there in his work truck. He clips on his utility belt and gathers the required equipment and tools, climbing up to the attic as noiselessly as he can.

Half an hour in and the Valium is already easing the constant slideshow of pictures flashing through his mind. He wants this. He wants Annabelle to be fucked and for this huge other man to cum inside her. He just wants to get through the day without it churning relentlessly in his mind.

Luke has taken great care to drill holes through the ceiling of the lounge and dining areas. He has used a hand drill rather than taking the risk of waking Annabelle with the sound of any power tools. He mounts the relay unit there in the attic and runs electricity from the supply up there. The range for the mic is advertised to capture high sound quality up to 5 metres, so he drills even more delicately and pokes the end of the tiny cylindrical device through in the corner of the bedroom. He then creeps back down the ladder and uses a dining chair to reach the ceiling to mount the small disc-shaped cameras. They are wide-angle lenses. The diagram on the mounting indicates he has covered the lounge and entry foyer with one and the dining and kitchen with the other.

It’s past four o’clock. Luke stops for a quick coffee. His mind is wonderfully numb and kind of floating around now. The thought of what’s going to happen that night is all positive and exciting. He realizes he should have gone for the Valium the other day as well.

By six and the breaking of dawn, Luke has the software uploaded and the link established with the cameras and mic. He doesn’t know how to get sound access via an earpiece but decides he can easily carry the laptop and just use standard earphones plugged into it. He tests that just in time to hear Annabelle shuffling around, her yawn quite clearly audible. “Luke!” she calls out, and he hears her brilliantly through his earphones.

He waits to check vision and watches his wife walk from the hallway, across the entry foyer and through one side of his split screen then through the other to the kitchen. He tilts his head to see through the garage window that she’s looking across, obviously checking for his truck in the garage.
