MIKOS PULLED UP TO ONE of Delucia’s properties, or was it Bishop’s now? There seemed to be a transfer of properties and territories where the two were concerned, and if it wasn’t because Tommy still had a few spots left in his name, Mikos would think this was a transfer of power.

Mikos gripped his gun as he walked over the dead bodies that littered the floor. It was a mistake to come here, but he wanted to see the aftermath in at least one of the spots they hit. There were at least ten of Delucia’s men here along with Bishop’s. Each spot they hit had ten or more men—dead men now. It was going to be hard for Bishop and Tommy to hide behind men who were no longer breathing and willing to take a bullet for them.

There was sound coming to his left, and he picked his head up to see that one of the guys they shot had started moving. Mikos shot first before the rest of his men unloaded in the guy. The guy quickly slumped over, and a phone fell out of his hand.

Mikos motioned to one of his guys to pick it up. When he showed Mikos it was still on, Mikos smiled and mouthed, ‘make sure you leave a message.’

He turned on his heels and walked back out, sidestepping the blood that started to pool on the hardwood floors. This place had been one of Delucia’s higher end properties, and Mikos was almost sad to see it go. The smell of lighter fluid tickled his nose before he walked back outside. This along with the other six spots they hit would burn to the ground tonight. The night sky would be bright with the fiery flames of the Delucia organization.

Mikos pulled out his cell phone. He pulled up the last text he sent and typed a new one: Do it.

The response was instant: Are you sure? That’s one of our own.

Mikos cursed under his breath and resent the message: Do it.

This wasn’t a time to grow a conscience. This was war, and in war there would be casualties. These men were expendable, they knew that when they signed up for this life. Mikos was playing to win, and if he had to sacrifice a few nonimportant players to win this war, so be it. As long as he was the only one still standing at the end, Mikos didn’t particularly care how he got there.
