We got out and walked towards the porch. Trey was unlocking the door. “Hey you two,” I yelled behind him.

“Hey, y’all. Where y’all just coming from?”

“Oh, we just went out for a bite to eat,” I said. “Tired of leftovers, and since Ricky was at his dad’s doing nothing, I walked down and asked him to go with me. Since my other son has been too busy with his girlfriend to hang with me.” I laughed.

He opened the door and we all walked in.

“Well it’s hard not to, Ma. I mean, I’ve been deployed for eighteen months.” He smiled.

I knew my son had needs I couldn’t please. “Boy, that is TMI.” l laughed again and thanked God he didn’t suspect a thing. “Y’all want something to drink or something?” I grabbed a bottle of white wine.

“A glass for me,” La-La said.

I grabbed two wine glasses. “And you two? We still have beer.”

“I’ll have one,” Trey said.

Ricky cleared his throat. “I’ll take one.”

“So, Ricky … Man, what is up? We haven’t had a chance to hang, so this weekend, clear your schedule.”

I went to hand them both a beer.

“Cool,” Ricky agreed.

“And you have to let me meet your girl. I know you got somebody special, huh?” Trey laughed.

“No, not at the moment. I’m chasing this one particular one, but you know how it goes. It’s still early.” His eyes were on me.

Staring at me was not the move. “Well, you need to bring her by, so I can see if she is worth it,” I chimed in. I knew he was making small talk with Trey, but I’d be hella jealous if he even thought of bringing a woman around.

We had a few more drinks and Ricky left before Trey and Lavitra, but after they had been gone for thirty minutes, he came back. We ended up in my pool with me riding him. I knew I could fall hard for Ricky. He was everything I wanted and needed in a man, and somehow, I didn’t feel the age difference between us.

It was like being with someone my age; each moment spent with him was like magic. We came close to getting caught a few times, because it was so hard to keep my hands off of him. But we hid our relationship well, and when Trey left to go to Fort Hood, there was no more bobbing and weaving.
