CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Riley picked Suzie up around 2:30pm at BYT. When Suzie suggested they have lunch at a local restaurant, Riley lied and told Suzie there was a Bistro near the property they were going to check out. She felt guilty lying but knew there was no other way to get Suzie to attend the family dinner at her parent's house. She made a mental note to make it up to Suzie and then smiled to herself, considering the many ways she could accomplish that goal.

Riley pulled up to the gate in front of her parent's house in New Haven half an hour later, her right hand curled tightly in Suzie's while she drove. She rolled her window down and pushed the buzzer for the gate to open. She waited for the gate to latch firmly behind them before stopping and putting the car in park.

Suzie had started getting skeptical when Riley drove into the gated community in New Haven. It wasn't until the very moment that the gate latched behind Riley's car and Suzie got a good look at the three story Villa in front of her that Suzie realized where she had been taken. She slowly pulled her hand away from Riley and took a deep breath when Riley stopped the car. Before she could demand that Riley take her back to West Haven, or she would get out and walk there herself, Riley leaned over, pulled Suzie's lips to hers and kissed her deeply. When Riley pulled her mouth back an inch and Suzie took another breath to speak, Riley kissed her again and then laid her finger on Suzie's lips and rushed to speak.

"Don't hate me. I know you're angry..." Riley watched Suzie's eye narrow to slits and her nostrils flared when she breathed deeply. "You're cute when you're angry." Riley quickly kissed Suzie again when she pushed Riley's fingers off her lips and then place her finger back over them. "I knew you would never come. I've asked you every week for the past few months. Please. Ple-e-ease." Riley begged Suzie. "I know you don't do family, but you've never met my family, and I want you to meet them." Riley removed her fingers slowly and kissed Suzie one more time. "It's important to me." Then she sat back and waited.

Suzie took a deep breath and studied the face of the woman in the driver's seat, the face that she had spent the last several months desperately trying not to fall for. I love everything about you, she thought to herself, right down to the goofiest things like thinking if you kiss me, I'll just melt and do what you want. Suzie knew there was more truth behind that thought then she would like there to be. However, since Riley had lied to her, she sat. She deliberately drew out the silence, making Riley sweat. "Why does it matter so much to you if I meet your family?"

Because I'm falling in love with you.

"Because that’s what happens when you are in a relationship and you have a big family.
