Chapter Twenty Three

Blake ground his teeth as Tess walked away from the bar. He watched her hips move in her tight black shorts that barely covered the curve of her ass. Blake saw the bartender’s eyes on her too and his hands clenched on the bar. His knuckles turned white and his jaw tightened painfully. Next to him, Adam laughed. Annoyed at being caught, Blake shot him a dark look.

“Sorry, man.” Adam raised his hands in surrender before wrapping a hand around his drink. “How was your date last night?”

Blake let loose a dry, dark laugh. He drained the rest of his beer before turning his eyes on his friend. Adam’s off and on girlfriend had tried to set Blake up with one of her friends, a tiny brunette with a huge rack.

“That girl’s a bitch. She talked shit about everyone around us the whole night.” Adam looked amused as he nodded knowingly.

“Yup.” Adam sniffed and watched him closely. “Taryn told me she didn’t come home though.”

Blake shrugged. What can I say? His eyes sought out Tess as she made her way through the bar with a tray full of drinks. Most of the guys had their eyes glued to her as she passed. Blake had always admired the Rambler’s uniform for their waitresses, but just then he hated it. Short black shorts, tight red V-neck shirt that had the bar name on the back, and knee-high black boots. What guy wouldn’t appreciate that? He hated all the eyes on Tess. He hated her flirting and her sexy smile. He hated it all because it wasn’t aimed at him.

Adam’s followed his gaze.

“What are you going to do about that?” he asked as he tilted his head in her direction.

“Nothing.” His voice was hard, angry. “She doesn’t like bad boys,” he added with a snort.

Adam frowned in his direction but Blake ignored him. Fishing some cash from his pocket, Blake tossed it on the bar.

“You want to come back to the house? I’ve got to get out of here.”

A look of sympathy crossed Adam’s face as he nodded and tossed his own cash down. The two headed for the door, but Blake couldn’t walk out without one last glance over his shoulder at Tess.

She tossed her blonde waves over her shoulder before leaning over to wipe a table down. Her body looked tense and Blake could see himself walking to her, leaning down, and placing his lips on the side of her neck before rubbing the tightness in her muscles away. Shaking his head to clear it, he swallowed thickly before ducking his head and making his way out the door.
