I slept the whole ride to Jerome’s apartment. My brain was just too overloaded to do anything else. Thankfully I dreamt of nothing.

When Jerome nudges me awake, I realize I’m inside his apartment. “Hey, you were out like a light.” He gives me a smile. “Are you hungry? I can whip something up.”

After what I’ve seen today the last thing I want is food. I pat the empty couch cushion next to me. “Just hold me for a while.”

He tries to hide the concern on his face as he joins me on the couch. I don’t think I have ever been this vulnerable with him before. I guess our honeymoon period is officially over thanks to Murdock. Things are getting way too real in our relationship.

Jerome wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me in close. I snuggle into his chest and realize the officer back at Order Headquarters was right about something. Even though Jerome is back in human form, his skin has the slightest hint of the smell of a wet dog. Strange, that I never noticed it before. My senses must still be on high alert. I look up at him admiring his soulful hazel eyes. “I’m not hungry, but you know what would be great?”

“Anything, my witch.”

“I could use a long soak in that amazing deco bathtub of yours.”

A smile forms on his lips. “Can I join you?”

Men and their one-track minds. “That would be wonderful any other day, but I just want to relax and soak my cares away.” I tilt my head up and kiss him lightly on the lips. “Hope you don’t mind.”

He pushes a few strands of hair out of my face. “Of course not.” He gets up and smiles. “I’ll save the romantic bath for another time.”

“Thanks. You’re the best boyfriend ever. “

He chuckles. “About time you figured that out.”

I try to smack his cute butt, but he’s already headed toward the bathroom. In a second I hear the tap running full blast. I wander into the bathroom feeling like I’ve been punched in the gut over and over—and in a way, I have.

Bending over Jerome, I kiss him on the nape of his neck. “Thanks for being my rock today.”

“I’ll be your rock whenever you need me. I know you can’t be a badass witch all the time.” He hands me his terrycloth robe. “Get comfortable. The bath should be ready soon.”

“Thanks.” I look down at a tub that is screaming for bubbles. “Hey, you wouldn’t happen to have any bubble bath?”

He laughs. “It’s not a staple in many men’s bathrooms I know.”

I chuckle. “Right. Can you get me my wand? I’ll do the rest.”

He gives me an old time English bow. “Anything for my witch.”

His curls bob up and down as he strides out of the bathroom happy to complete my request. How did I get so lucky to find such an amazingly generous man? Part of me wonders if my mother had more of a hand in our romance than just introducing us and encouraging me to give him a chance.
