Chapter Five

“Why is it that I want to fuck you instead of killing you?” Gillian giggled as Declan lifted his head from his folded arms to glare at her. “I’m being serious here. I have no idea why I’m not trying to wring your pretty little neck instead of nibbling at it.”

“It’s because I’m special.” She spoke softly as she rubbed down his back. “And you know that.” He opened his mouth to speak but she cut him off. “And not in that mentally challenged way that you’re thinking.”

“I wasn’t -- okay, maybe I was.” He snickered. “I am just amazed that you are not freaking out more.”

“Freaking out?”

Declan settled his head back on his arms and relaxed as much as he could. “Yeah. It’s not like you knew you were bringing a real bear home.”

“I was wondering about that too.” She paused in rubbing his back, and Declan lifted his head once again. “But I chalk it up to a miscommunication. You told me that you were a bear and I thought you meant bear not bear bear.”

“And you are fine with that?” Declan was genuinely curious. He wanted to know what she was thinking. It was odd for someone to not understand what he was speaking of when he introduced himself as a bear. Instead of screaming or asking a lot of embarrassing questions, she just wanted to have more sex. She was, in a word, stacking up to be the sexiest thing to happen to him in a long time.

“Strangely enough --” She shrugged and paused to squeeze more cream onto his back. “-- I’m not bothered by it. I always act on my instincts. My instincts are telling me you just may be what I have been missing in my life.”

“Your instincts?” He grinned. “What do you know about instincts, human girl?” he teased.

“Woman,” she corrected.

“Woman,” he agreed, rolling over onto his side to look at her. “Okay, woman,” and he smiled as she giggled, settling back to stare at him. “What do you know about instincts?”

“I know that they have never led me or my family wrong.”

“So it’s a family thing.” He licked his lips as he stared at her naked body. Gillian was built perfectly in his eyes. She was tall for a female, with legs that seemed to go on forever. Her body was curved just like a forties pin-up model, firm and supple with enough curves to make a man happy.

“The women in my family always go by their instincts.” She tilted her head to the side, her smile infectious and innocent while being devastatingly sexy. He could not stop himself from reaching out to caress her, running his fingers over her soft brown skin. “Since my ancestors fled Russia and settled here in the US centuries ago.”

“Back that long?” he asked, genuinely amused by this glimpse into her family’s past.

“Longer. My many times removed grandmother was a barber in the Old West. She pulled teeth, sewed wounds, and cut hair under the watchful eye of her husband.
