Chapter Twenty

“Come on, baby gurrl. Make daddy feel nice.”

The words reverberate in her head and Kaylen turns, impatiently jerking loose the sheets, to wrap her form, mummy-like, into a white shroud.

“Get on outta there, you dumb bitch! I shore wish yore ma was here to keep an eye on you. Maybe she’da kept you from gettin’ inta such foolishness.I swear,girls ain’t nothin’ but dumb,just igno’rant.Ya gotta tell ’em where to piss, even.”

A laugh echoes. A hand looms large and sudden pain wells, making her eyes feel bounced in her head. A throbbing headache splits the space above her nose.

“Hyram, Jame, can’t ya’ll watch out for yore sister? She’s done got in the barn and got cow shit all over her.”

Other hands grab at her. She is pressed against rough, sweat-and urine-stinking clothes.

“What are you gonna do with her?” It’s a boy’s whisper, hoarse and curious.

“I dunno,” says the older boy. “I’d like to take her out and shoot her though. God, she causes trouble.”

She kicks out and feels an intense sensation of pleasure as the kick connects against cloth-covered skin with square power. The pleasure is soon replaced by humiliation, however, as she is dumped into the slimy, frigid water of the horse trough. Boyish braying parts the night.

“Look at her! Ain’t no princess now.”

But I am a princess, her mind screams.
