After an extensive birthday brunch with her best friends, they’d all gone back to their shared apartment to spend a leisurely afternoon in front of the TV.

Amira hadn’t lasted long before she started getting ready for the evening. She wanted everything to be perfect, considering Nate was already organizing a birthday dinner for her.

After taking a long relaxing bath, she decided to have a pedicure and manicure while watching Pride and Prejudice. Afterward, she styled her hair to fall in long curls over her shoulder and applied subtle makeup. The decision to wear black lace lingerie also was an easy one. The only problem was making up her mind about the damned dress.

“Red or black, red or black?” she pondered, holding the red and black dresses in front of her body.

“It doesn’t matter what you wear,” Chiara replied without looking up from her book. “This guy is so infatuated with you, there’s no way you’ll wear that dress for more than a minute anyway.”

Amira doubted that, because even though the sex between Nate and her was breathtaking, Nate never reduced it to just that. On the contrary, it often seemed like he was trying to avoid that very impression, like he was trying to prove to her that there was more going on between them.

Nate treated her completely differently than Davy had.

At the time, she’d just been too blinded to realize it. All the glamor and high society had captivated her so much, she’d totally lost sight of what was important. She’d been trapped in a world of parties, the highlife, money, and the feeling that nothing could stop her. The fall had been all the more painful. That was why she was so grateful to Nate for showing her with so much patience that things could be different, that there was a real man behind the facade who wanted more from her than just her body.

“Take the black one and come on,” Luna said, already waiting impatiently.

They’d agreed she’d take Chiara’s car and give Luna a ride to the secured neighborhood to Dylan’s house. Nate would come straight from the set and didn’t want to cause a commotion with the limo.

Since Luna and Dylan had started dating, the house where their shared apartment was located had always been pretty much under siege by reporters anyway.

Another couple in this house would probably be the straw that broke the camel’s back, and Amira—just like Luna—would only be able to go outside with security.

She quickly slipped into the black dress and matching high heels, then gave her hair and makeup a final once-over in the mirror.

“Can I go like this, girls?” she asked.

Chiara just rolled her eyes, and Luna giggled. “You’ve got it bad, missy,” she said.

“I don’t,” Amira replied, grabbing her coat and purse.

“You do,” Luna said, holding the door open for her. “Now come on, we’re already late. Dylan’s waiting, and knowing Nate, he’s doing the same.”

Laughing, they said goodbye to Chiara, who somehow looked a little lost, sitting there
