Chapter Nine

As Paige sat stunned and naked on Leon’s lap, she couldn’t see clearly for the tears filling her eyes. She’d badly misjudged him, and she felt like a fool. He’d repeatedly told her how much he loved her, and insisted that her scars didn’t matter, but for some crazy reason, she’d refused to believe him.

Idiot.

He was right. She’d underestimated herself and underestimated him, too. Both of which frustrated him to the point of anger. All the worry she’d been carrying around with her for the past few weeks had been unnecessary. Leon loved her regardless, and she should have trusted him enough to confide her concerns much earlier in their relationship. Instead, the lack of self-confidence in her body image had meant that he’d literally had to drag the information from her.

But boy was she glad he had, because right now, as she stared into those gorgeous dark eyes of his, she felt as light as a feather. It was as though the weight of the world had been lifted from her shoulders, because the crushing anxiety, the sort that taunted her by whispering in her ear, He’ll think you’re ugly, he’ll want to finish with you, had been proved wrong, utterly wrong. Leon was an honorable man, a man with principles.

Paige now understood why he’d been pissed with her though. He had every right to be. By failing to confide in him she’d marked him down as a shallow, egotistical bastard, who only thought about himself. She now realized how wrong she’d been.

Using just a single finger, he gently raised her chin. “All sorted now?”

“Yes, and thank you.”

“Any more demons to be chased away?”

“No.” She smiled then broke into a giggle at his use of words. “Their sorry asses have been well and truly paddled. They wouldn’t dare show their ugly faces again.”

With his finger still under her chin, he kissed her lips in such a way that she knew he genuinely adored her. His tongue thrust inside her mouth, exploring it in detail, and she was left in no doubt that pity was the last thing on his mind. He was feeling sexy and aroused, and she, Paige Palmer, was the cause of the erection threatening to burst through his pants. That knowledge made her feel good, real good, so when he cupped her badly damaged breast in his hand and closed his lips around her nipple, she didn’t pull away or even attempt to.

She’d learned her lesson, and instead, she savored the exquisite feeling of the man she loved adoring her body despite its imperfections. Although a large portion of her areola was missing, the nerve endings and blood supply to the nipple itself had been saved, allowing her to enjoy the exquisite pleasure this wonderful guy bestowed upon her.

Her insecurities had duped her into believing that no man could find her sexually exciting again, especially one as successful and desirable as Leon. This thought alone made the tears start to well up in her eyes once more.
