Chapter Ten

Griffin looked up as Trenton walked around the room. He had come back a few hours later, to do the normal rounds once again. The man was as handsome as ever and he couldn’t help but notice the way the nurse carried himself. There was a shyness there when he came into the room. He was nervous. The contractor promised himself that he wasn’t going to make it any worse. “How are you feeling?” Trenton had an uneasy smile on his face, awkwardly moving toward the bed.

Griffin offered him a weak smile. “I wish I could get through to her. Help her understand somehow. But I don’t know how.”

Trenton nodded. “I’m sorry. This is hard to deal with, I know.”

“Do you know what to do?”

“Sadly, there’s not much that we can do unless she’s willing to ask for help.”

“I know.” Griffin groaned.

“On a happier note, you should be getting out of here soon. The infection wasn’t bad and it’s been pretty much cleaned out.” Trenton checked the chart. “I know that may not be much comfort considering what’s been happening.”

“I’ll be on crutches again.”

“Not for too much longer.”

“I’m not so sure about that. I feel like it should take a lot longer to heal.”

“You would be surprised.”

“And in physical therapy.”

“The doctor talked to me about all of that.” Griffin nodded while his eyes wandered over the man who was in his room. “It was already covered.”

“Did you have any questions?”

“I don’t think I do.”

Trenton nodded. “I know it can get a little overwhelming with all of the information and technical terms.”

“There are a lot of those, but I got some good advice and the doctor was willing to answer something if I didn’t understand it.”

“That sounds like our doctors here. This hospital is really good for that sort of thing.”

“Is it?”

“Yeah, it really is.” He nodded. “All right. Is there anything else you want to ask me?”

“Not really.”

“Ok, then let me get you taken care of real quick. It won’t take long and I’ll be out of your hair.”

“Trust me, you very much are not in my hair.” Griffin shook his head. “Is asking you out a possibility?”

“You’re still my patient.” Trenton was smiling this time. “And how about you slow down on the dating until you’re back on your feet.”

“I’ll be working on that.”

“Looks like you already started. The physical therapist has already been in to see you, right?”

“Yeah, he stretched me out and it kinda hurt.”

Trenton laughed. “It’s not going to be comfortable every time. I’m sorry.” His head shook. “It just has to be done.”

“I know that, and I’ll do it, but it’s really exhausting.”

“That’s because you’re still healing.”

“All right. Let’s talk about something else. How long can you be here checking on me?” Griffin smiled at the nurse that stood by his bedside. “How much of your time can I steal?”

“I have other patients.” But Trenton was smiling too.

“I know you do. And I just want to make sure I don’t take you away for too long.
