Chapter 6

When he had rolled off her, Rome threw his arm over his eyes, lying there panting as if he would never be able to get enough air into his lungs. And, a much bigger concern to him than that, he wondered if he would ever fully recover from what had happened between them. He knew, without a conscious thought about it, that she had completely ruined him for other women. He would never be as satisfied with anyone else as he was, at this moment, with her. And that wasn't even the extent of it. He hadn't even spanked her yet, although he very much looked forward to doing so. It was an act that he considered to be at least as intimate as what they'd just done—in some ways, even more so. And he knew that, one way or the other, he wasn't going to be able to let her leave his house without indulging himself by doing that with her, too. If he was going to go for broke, he might as well go for flat broke.

Since she'd asked him to make love to her, which was another thing he didn't think he was ever going to get over, he not only had to worry about whether or not he could keep his hands to himself for the rest of the time he intended that she stay at his place, which he acknowledged to himself that he severely doubted, but he worried about how she was going to react when she realized he wasn't kidding about spanking her.

At the very least, he intended to let her know—in no uncertain terms—that he was very unhappy with how lackadaisical she had been with her own safety. He didn't blame her for what happened to her. He affixed that blame squarely where it belonged—at the feet of the man who he absolutely intended to kill with his bare hands.

But she hadn't done everything she could to prevent it from happening, and he definitely felt the need to address that lapse with her in a way that he knew she would most understand. Hopefully, she wouldn't hate him afterward for succumbing to either impulse, but he wasn't counting on that.

Rome could hear Vicky panting next to him, and—one of the few times in his life—he was unsure about what he should do now. If they were at the beginning of a romantic relationship, he would roll over and spoon the ever loving crap out of her. He'd be at her night and day. He'd spoil her rotten—well, as much as she would allow him to, which wasn't much—and he would lavish every bit of pent up desire and attention on her that he'd been hoarding within himself since it was legal for him to do so.

There were several arguments against him doing that, though. She'd been assaulted, and beyond wishing—and actively working toward—the perpetrator's long, painfully torturous demise, he wasn't at all sure what was best for him to do for her.
