It looks like my plan backfired.
Silence. There’s been nothing but dead silence on the ride back to his house. I reach out to try to turn on the radio, but he looks over at me and shakes his head. I pull my hand away. It’s like I’ve tried to touch the Mona Lisa.
I bring my hand back to my lap. I can’t even be all that angry with myself right now, because what just happened was pretty damn spectacular. I mean, I know Johnny is angry with me, and I know there is a distinct possibility that he’ll want me out of his house, but I know he’d never outright kick me out. I might have to get a new job and avoid him for a while, but if he got over the tickle thing, he’ll be able to get over this too.
Of course at this point I can’t tell him that I did it for him.
I knew it the moment we stepped foot in there. I was determined to make it happen. I wanted to wring some kind of reaction out of him, and I had to do something drastic. I thought he would be too calm and collected to do anything like what he did, though. I thought I’d just stay on the bull for a few seconds and then hop off before anyone really got a chance to get a good look at me. And if anyone did get a look at me up there? Well, it would have been worth it for the chance of Johnny seeing me up there.
Then the music started. I searched the crowd for Johnny’s eyes, and when I saw him, it was all for him. Every lustful glance I threw, every bite of my bottom lip, every swirl of my hips, every time I arched my back and held on tight - it was all for him.
I am not happy with just keeping things friendly. I'm not okay with just slow dancing. I'm not okay with a touch here, a smile there. Hell, no. So I had to try something.
But I never thought he’d charge over to me and pull me off the damn thing like a crazy, roaring bull himself.
“Aren’t you going to say anything?” I ask softly as I look over at him. He shakes his head.
“No,” he says, his hands grazing the steering wheel. “I’m thinking.”
“Well, by telling me you’re not going to say anything, you said something, so I guess we’re getting somewhere.”
He chuckles but doesn’t say anything else.
We continue in silence. We aren’t a far drive from home, and when we finally get into his driveway and get out of the car, I start up to the steps to the front door with him behind me. I get my keys out first and let us in.
When Johnny is inside, he goes straight to the kitchen. I hear him open the refrigerator and the metallic snap of a beer opening follows. I turn around and lock the door behind us, then hover near the entrance.
