"I know you will," Mrs. Glass said. "But you know what happened to Sleeping Turtle when she ate food last night that she wasn't used to eating. We don't want your substitute princess to get sick because she isn't used to your food."

"That's right," Bald Eagle agreed.

As soon as Mr. and Mrs. Glass had left, Bald Eagle called everyone together and explained that we were to be part of the float. "The little girl looks just like my granddaughter Flying Antelope. The time that Flying Antelope was part of our float, we won the prize. It is a good omen. Now the first thing we have to do is turn them from palefaces into Hopis."

Two Indian boys led me over to a little tent. A few minutes later a third one came in with a potful of dirty brown stuff.

"Take off your clothes and rub this all over," one of them told me. "It'll make you brown."
