Chapter Six

Audition after audition, Callie still wasn't able to snag even the smallest parts. She and Marlow had lunch at a sushi place on the Los Angeles pier.

"So, where's this hot n' sexy boyfriend, I've been hearing so much about? You haven't brought him over to our place. What is he some kind of werewolf or a vampire?" Marlow joked, not realizing how close she was to getting it right.

"Yeah sorta..." Callie mumbled. "We kinda broke up..."

Marlow squinted her eyes, not sure if Callie was just joking.

"You guys just got together and you're already headed towards splitsville? What the heck happened?" Marlowe asked.

"Rogue wants to treat his life like a toy, and expects me to stand there and watch it."

"But you knew when you two started banging... that he was a stuntman."

Callie hit Marlow in her arm. Marlow always had to be so crass.

"Yeah, so?" Callie replied.

"So—" Marlow repeated. "You fell in love with a dark and dangerous bad boy and now you're upset that he's actually a dark and dangerous bad boy?"

Callie never thought of it that way. Sure, when she met Rogue the bad boy thing attracted her, but his good heart is what made her stick around.

"Rogue Stockton can do anything, so why does he have to do the one thing that puts his life in danger, huh?" Callie declared, slapping her hands on the side of the table. Her heart raced uncontrollably with the idea she could ever be accused of being a hypocrite.

"Because, Callie. It's his life to do as he pleases. Isn't that also the reason you came looking for fame in Cali?" Marlow pointed out.

Callie turned her head to the side and pretended she wasn't listening. She knew that in a few days he'd have his big jump stunt over Death Gorge and didn't know how to stop it.

Marlow ate the last piece of sushi on the plate.

"All I'm saying is, don't give up so easily. I haven't seen you this happy in I don't know how long. Happiness is a good look on you," Marlow said.

Callie only shrugged not sure what to say. She knew Rogue was going to have his big rehearsal for his stunt tomorrow. But was she going to be there?
