Branson takes me back to the hospital to get my car, and I’m a little disappointed he isn’t taking me home. I fantasize about inviting him in for a nightcap and seeing where the evening takes us.

“You’re blushing,” he says, grinning as he looks over at me. We’re parked next to my car, taking our time saying goodbyes. “Are you thinking about something good?”

My cheeks get even hotter at that thought, and he leans towards me.

“Are you thinking something like this?”

His lips meet mine. They’re gentle, but determined, and I feel way too far away from him. I scoot across the bench seat, his arms pulling me closer to him. He nibbles my lower lip, and when I gasp, he explores my mouth with his tongue, taking his time and kissing me thoroughly. He smells like sandalwood and coffee, and I could get lost in him forever.

When he finally breaks the kiss, he gently pushes my hair out of my face and smiles, his mouth still mere inches from mine.

“When’s your next day off?” he asks.

“Day after tomorrow,” I answer breathlessly.

“Perfect,” he says. “Mine, too. Any chance I can steal you for the day?”

He can steal me for my whole life, as far as I’m concerned.

“Ok,” I say.

“Text me your address, and I’ll pick you up bright and early.”

I nod, still dazed from the kiss.

“Let’s get you in your car, baby.”

Branson jumps out of his truck and opens my door for me. When I’m settled and buckled in, he leans in and presses one last kiss to my lips.

“I can’t wait to see you again,” he says.

And he’s definitely not alone in that sentiment.
