The next morning, I woke up early.

The house was really quiet.

Everything felt so funny. Funny as in weird. Not even the floor felt real. It was as if I was walking around in a new world. But not a good new world—a bad new world. I found a note on the kitchen table.

Ramiro,

I’m at the hospital. I couldn’t sleep, so I just decided to go back and sit with your brother. I want you to go to school, okay? Just keep your cell phone on (put it on vibrate so they don’t take it away from you). Tell your teachers you might get a phone call because your brother’s very sick. Anyway, I don’t know that anything eventful will happen today. I’ll be in touch. Try and make it a normal day. Can you do that?
