Watching Macey in her element is amazing.

She doesn’t seem to give herself enough credit, but I hope to have time to show her how incredible she is.

Andy and I have been giving her space to do her thing, but no matter how far in the store I go, I make sure to have her in my sights.

She’s breathtaking.

Telling her that I’ve read all of her books and showing her that I own each and every single one is two different things in my mind. So even though she already knew I was a fan, my nerves were jumping all over my stomach. I feel like I’m holding a sack of gold on my back instead of a bag of books. It might as well be gold for how highly I covet them.

These books were the closest thing I had to Macey in the six years we were apart, and I never thought I would ever be in her world, with her in her world again. If the guys could read my mind, they’d probably laugh at me for how emotional I’m being over this, but I can’t help it.

Even if I can’t proclaim it to the world, Macey is mine. She chose me.

She chose Andy and Max, too, but honestly I’m lucky to be grouped with them. My best friends. Andy is more than that to me now, and Max isn’t quite yet at the level of trust he once was, but in my mind, they balance each other out. That’s all that matters, right?

What really matters is the fact that she told Macen about our unconventional relationship. She once told me that, as close as she and her little brother are, she only tells him the most important changes in her life once she’s settled with them. From what I remember, as long as she’s happy, he’s happy.

My heart twists when I think about my own siblings back home in the Philippines. I’ve been dodging their calls ever since I got traded to Tampa, too embarrassed to tell them why. Lying is not an option. They would see right through me. I make a mental note to find time to call them soon.

I shake off those thoughts to be dealt with later, and continue making my way through the store. I spot Coach Reed and Savannah walking around the young adult section, so I make my way over to him to talk for a few minutes. It makes me extremely pleased to see our head coach supporting local businesses and friends. I’m beginning to learn that Eliot Reed is one of the most personable coaches I’ve ever played for, and I pray to God I don’t do anything to screw up his blind faith in me any more than I already have.

The event is coming to a close, so after I make my rounds through the store and visit each booth, I find myself propped against the science fiction shelf with bags of books at my feet. This spot has the best view of Macey, and I watch her, unabashed in my blatant interest in her.
