Tana knew she’d raised the stakes too soon.

If this had been a poker game, you didn’t do that unless you were confident in your hand. And did she have any reason to be confident in what was happening between her and Chase? No. None.

But her father had always told her that her biggest weakness at the poker table was her lack of appreciation for measuring the odds ahead of time and working out all the probabilities.

Even realizing she was guilty of that same mistake now, Tana couldn’t find it in her heart to care about the consequences. Not when Chase stepped so close his feet bracketed hers. His big hands clasped her waist, warming her skin right through the cotton of her T-shirt. His gray eyes seemed to see past all her smoke and mirrors to the woman she was beneath.

He knew her past. All the worst parts of her.

Yet somehow, miraculously, he seemed to want her every bit as much as she still craved him.

“I won’t be ending this kiss, either,” he promised, the words wrapping around her more seductively than any embrace. “Not unless you tell me to.”

Her heart pounded so loudly he must have heard it. The sound filled her ears even as her fingers walked up his chest to rest on his broad shoulders. “Do your worst, cowboy.”

In spite of her taunting, Chase brushed the softest of kisses over her lips. Testing. Teasing.

Her bravado melted underneath the skillful seduction, her whole world narrowing to the play of his mouth over hers. Nipping. Licking. Sucking.

Every stroke of his tongue stoked the fire inside her, making her ache and squirm in his arms, desperate for more. For everything. Especially since she could feel the rock-hard length of him pressing against her belly.

Edging back, she gasped his name.

“Chase. Please.” She cupped his bristled jaw in her hand, her fingers tracing his cheekbone. “I need more.”

His growl of satisfaction rumbled right through her. “Me, too. Are you okay with the cabin?”

A thrill shot through her at the prospect. This was happening. Her and Chase Serrano. After all these years.

Despite all the reasons that it was probably a really bad idea, Tana couldn’t wait another minute.

“You could take me against this tree, and I’d ask for more.”

His gray eyes went molten silver.

“Don’t tempt me.” He spun on his heel and led her toward the cabin, his long strides necessitating that she double-step through the dried pine needles and fallen leaves.

If she wasn’t so thoroughly turned on she might have laughed at the picture she must make, practically sprinting back to this man’s bed in spite of everything that had happened between them.

Reaching the cabin, he nudged the door open and pulled her inside after him. Despite the rustic exterior, the interior was clean and well maintained, if sparsely furnished.
