I woke up to Lauren cuddled up next to me. When I noticed she was wearing my long sleeved button-up and nothing else but those curly, red pigtails, my mind tried urging me for another go. But my body was spent.

“Adam, I think we've got a problem.”

Fuck. I knew exactly what it was. My half-awake brain couldn't stir me enough to show much reaction.

Lauren pulled herself even closer into me. “I'm not on any birth control.” Her face snuggled against mine. “What if I get pregnant?”

Feeling her body hugged up against my own, I honestly believed it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. “What if you do?”

“I don't know, Adam. It scares me a little.”

When I never knew what answer I was supposed to give, I always resorted to what my uncle and his ring always said I should do. I told the truth. “If it happens, so be it. We have to make each other happy. That's what we owe to each other.”

“You mean you wouldn't mind?” I would, but this power had taught me something about being accountable.

I wasn't opposed to whatever path she wanted to take if it did happen, since it was ultimately Lauren's body and her choice. “If it comes down to that, do whatever you think is right. I'll still be here.”
