Start the breathing and think of nothing else. On each exhale count one through to ten. Thus:
Inhale, Exhale â Count One
Inhale. Exhale â Count Two
Inhale, Exhale â Count Three
All the way to ten. It sounds dead easy but when you have a mind filled with all kinds of junk, it isnât that easy. You will find that your mind wanders and this is where you have to get it in line and start again at number one. The reason that you are given breath to think about in meditation is because it stops you from thinking about other things. The only thing that should go through your mind is your breathing. This gives your mind something to chew on. When thoughts creep into your mind, dismiss them and start again. You should try this for about quarter of an hour at first and gradually increase your meditation time as you get better at it.
